Designing for Dzumbu. The Story Behind the Dzumbu Travel Logo

When I got the opportunity to design the brand identity for Dzumbu Travel, I knew the logo had to be more than just visually appealing. It needed to carry a story.
In traditional context, Dzumbu (derived from Dzambudling) refers to a gathering place, a realm where people come together. To capture the essence of the agency, I focused on fusing two core concepts: travel and gathering.
Here is a look inside the design process, symbolic elements, and brand choices behind Dzumbu Travel.
The Concept: Airplane Meets Temple
Combining movement with a place of gathering led to a unique fusion of two distinct icons:
The Airplane: A clear symbol of travel, movement, modern exploration, and connection across distances.
The Temple: A traditional sanctuary — a sacred space where people naturally gather for good deeds, reflection, and community.
By integrating the airplane and temple, the logo bridges modern travel with local cultural heritage and hospitality.
Logos, Seals, and Brand Marks
A versatile brand identity needs to work seamlessly across digital screens, print collateral, documents, and merchandise.

The primary logo features the central icon paired with clean typography.

Official Seals & Brand Marks
For official documents, stamps, and stylized social media profiles, circular seals and compact brand marks were created to maintain recognition in tight formats.

Brand Marks
Color Palette: Deep Sapphire
A brand’s color choice sets the emotional tone. For Dzumbu Travel, Deep Sapphire was selected as the primary brand color.
Historically and culturally associated with royalty, wisdom, truth, and spiritual insight, Deep Sapphire conveys trust and peace of mind — reassuring travelers that they are in good, reliable hands.

Typography: Honoring Tradition & Modernity
To balance cultural roots with contemporary aesthetics, two complementary typefaces were chosen:
Uchen

The name "Uchen" (Tibetan: དབུ་ཅན་) literally translates to "with a head". This refers to the prominent, uniform horizontal lines that run across the top of each character, giving the script a linear and structured appearance.
Oswald

The font is characterized by its narrow, vertically elongated characters, making it an excellent choice for tight spaces and bold headlines. It is one of the popular fonts used by travel agencies.
Final Thoughts on Branding
Branding is far more than a visual mark — it is the soul of a business. It shapes how travelers recognize, remember, and trust an agency long before they book a trip.
By grounding Dzumbu Travel's visual identity in meaningful local heritage, deep colors, and clean design, the new brand identity establishes a clear, confident presence built to turn first-time visitors into lifelong travelers.
